I found out that OpenDrive streaming players won’t appear on my blog. Until I can find out how to put streaming players here, I’ll have to limit my audios to downloads. Now, on with this post.
Another site that deals with strange music is Bob Purse’s blog,
“The Wonderful and the Obscure”
In March, 2015, “The DivShare Problem” happened, and all the songs there up until then were removed. When those songs were there, I downloaded a few of them, and I’d like to present those now. I’ll link to the original “Wonderful and the Obscure” blog post the songs appeared on, in order of the blog post dates, so you can see Bob’s comments about the songs – and whenever I left comments there, you get to see those embarrassing things as well.

This post got me interested in the sometimes out-there material of the “garage-poem” band, New Image. I’ve since gotten an oodle of 45’s by them, which I’ll present in my next post.

I really wish I still had the Elvis tribute song on side 1. I think the last line went something like “They aughta put a mausoleum, in the Memphis Coliseum”.
“We Got the Blues” – Bobbi Blake (The Real Pros) Download (4MB)
This next song was in the last post before the DivShare problem completely took over. Bob’s original post is no longer there. This seems to be to be a legit demo where a first recording was made with the music & background vocals. It sounds to me like this recording was done by the MSR folks. The music sounds like Rodd Keith’s material of his last 2 years, and the background singers sound a lot like “The Sisterhood”, who sang on several MSR albums, and who in these early years sound to me like a multi-tracked Bobbi Blake. When that recording was received, a second recording was apparently made with Victor singing along. For some reason, that tape was sent to Sterling. If I’m right about all this, this could be a rare appearance of Bobbi Blake on Norm Burns’ home label!
“The Melody of Love” – Victor and the Trophies Download (8MB) (This sumbleep’s nearly 6 minutes long.)
Here are records I bought while these songs were in “The Wonderful and the Obscure”.

Among the first few 45’s I bought when I started collecting strange records again in 2013 was this one. I thought it would be neat to have my own copy of something in “The Wonderful and the Obscure”!
“High Brow Baby” – Norm Burns Download (2MB)
“Melancholy Me” – Norm Burns Download (2MB)

One day at a flea market, I picked up 2 45’s in the same booth: the Sammy Marshall “The Next Tear That Falls” / “Tears and Champagne” 45, which can be heard here, and this one.
My Guy – Kris Arden Download (2MB)
Just a Few – Sammy Marshall Download (2MB)
Makes My Heart Start Flopping Around – The Mystery Girl Download (2MB)
I Love ‘Em So – Ronnie May Download (1MB)
Again, you can hear every song posted there from mid-2015 on by clicking this link for the latest post in Bob Purse’s “The Wonderful and the Obscure”. Thanks very much, Bob, and keep up the great work!
